EAT: Rogers’ Chocolates in West Vancouver, BC

By Jsleigh14 @jsleigh14

I’ve heard of Rogers’ sugar and Rogers’ the cell provider, but I’ve never heard of Rogers’ Chocolates - until last weekend that is. I paid my first visit to their store in West Vancouver while I was shopping at Park Royal. My friend insisted to drop by because these chocolates are her mom’s favorite and she wanted to pick up a box. As I arrived into the store, I learned that Rogers’ Chocolates were actually founded in our very own Victoria in 1885. That makes them a 127-year-old company – not even Godiva has been around for that long! After realizing this fact, I was convinced to try out some of their products to see how BC chocolate tastes.

Before I dived into their chocolate selection, I tried out some of their ice cream. I felt rather kiddy and decided to get a double cup with Bubblegum and Coffee. This ice cream is surely one of the best I’ve had in town – it’s thick, heavy, and has a fresh dairy taste. The bubblegum flavor in particular had very tasty pieces of gum in it that I rather enjoyed.

I ended up purchasing three chocolate bars: Raspberry Truffle, Butter Caramel, and Almonds & Raisins. They were all fairly dark chocolates with 54% cocoa. Although being slightly expensive for chocolate bars, I enjoyed them a lot because they’re not too sweet and they didn’t leave my mouth dry afterwards. I also liked how these bars were thick so each cube of chocolate was packed with lots of ingredients.

Oddly enough, I think I almost liked the ice cream more than the chocolates here – but nevertheless they were both substantially delicious. After doing more research at home, I’ve learned that Rogers’ also has locations in Granville Island and Gastown as well. I’m happy to have found this place because I’m quite sick of giving Lindt and Godiva chocolates as gifts. Rogers‘ is not only a bit more special, but they’re Canadian too! Nothing I like more than to support a Canadian business.
