EAT: Petrossian – Eastern European in Manhattan, NY

My last brunch in the Big Apple took place at Petrossian, an Eastern European restaurant in Midtown West. This restaurant was founded in 1984 and is housed in the historic Alwyn court building. My friend and I decided to come here for lunch after my morning stroll in Central Park nearby.

For brunch, Petrossian offers a 3-course prix fixe menu for $34. This includes your personal choice of an appetizer, entree, and dessert, along with any coffee or tea.

For my appetizer, I chose the Southern Buttermilk Pancakes. These pancakes were the softest melt-in-your-mouth-pancakes I’ve ever had. They were covered in blueberries and Vanilla Chantilly cream on top which enhanced their flavor by much. I would’ve preferred a little less cream for these small pancakes, but to each their own on that.

My friend got the Port Poached Pear and la Peral Cheese Salad as her appetizer. This appetizer was very intriguing because the pear and the cheese added two very different tastes to the dish. The pear and the cheese were both very fresh and tasty, but the frisee salad was a bit too bland for my liking.

My main entree was the Smoked Salmon Benedict with a side of baby spinach. This Benedict was amazing because the egg and the salmon worked together so well to produce a great taste. Also, the poached egg was perfect and runny on the inside, making it a delight to eat. The spinach salad was a bit dry, but soaked into some egg yolk and cheese it was okay.

My friend had the Grilled Skirt Steak in medium as her entree. The meat was unfortunately a bit dry for a skirt steak, and the veal jus didn’t too much to moisten it up. The eggs and the mashed potatoes were great though, as they balanced out the intensity of the dried up steak.

For dessert, both my friend and I had the Black and White Chocolate Mousse cake. This cake was overall too sweet and heavy for my liking, but the ice cream side was not bad.

Petrossian provided me with a luxurious and memorable dining experience. It really was a great restaurant to visit after a nice morning walk. I typically liked their appetizers and entrees; it was just their dessert that could have been better. But for those of you who are seeking a luxurious New Yorker brunch for a reasonable price, Petrossian is certainly worth considering.
