Cupcakes is franchise of small retro bakeries in Vancouver that are known for, well, their cupcakes. The whimsical cupcakes that they sell are just as fun to look at as they are to eat. The other day I suffered from a severe craving for sweets which I decided to settle by paying a visit to the Cupcakes store on Robson street. I always like going into this store because it’s filled with vibrant colours and the smell of fresh cakes. The best part about this bakery is that their cupcakes are baked fresh everyday, so you never end up getting anything that’s old and yucky.

The cashier that attended me successfully talked to me into getting half-a-dozen cupcakes since it’s a better deal and is tax-free. She also said that these cupcakes can last up to three days in the fridge, so I figured that eating two per day wasn’t too bad. I picked out six cupcakes that caught my eye and they were packed nicely into an iconic pink box for me to take home. I really appreciated how there was a cardboard fixture in the box that kept the cupcakes in place and spaced out.

Six cupcakes were a bit of an overkill for my sweet tooth…but they were delicious! My favorite one was definitely the Red Velvet one, since it had moderate sweetness and the cream cheese on top was just great. The best-looking one is probably the Sundae; it’s something I can see Barbie or Hello Kitty eating. Cupcakes has five locations across the Greater Vancouver Area and also does online ordering. I can imagine that it’d be pretty awesome to have many dozens of these at a special event.
- Delicious cupcakes that look fantastic
- Packaging is very considerate
- Offers tons of catering services
- Arguably too sweet
- Slightly on the expensive side
