EasyJet’s Hand Luggage Rules Because Passengers Warned Before Flying

By Elliefrost @adikt_blog

If you're leaving soon, there are rules you should know when packing for your trip.

The airline has urged passengers to read up on what they can and cannot take on board, saying: "We want you to be able to pack with confidence" and offering advice on what items should be left at home, the Daily reports Record.

With EasyJet, each passenger can take along a small hand luggage of maximum 45 x 36 x 20 cm as standard. For example, the Chelsea Bag from luxury suitcase brand Antler is currently on sale for £84, down from £140.

There are also certain items that are classified as dangerous goods. What are these items and what should not be packed?

Here's what you need to know about what you can and can't bring:

Liquid

When passing through the security checkpoint, you may only take liquids, aerosols and gels in containers of 100 ml or less. These should all fit into one transparent, resealable bag of 20 x 20 cm.

Each passenger is allowed to take a maximum of 1,000ml through security, but if you need more you can buy some in the departure lounge.

Alcohol

Alcohol purchased in the airside departure lounge is permitted to be brought into the cabin, provided it remains unopened. The alcohol must have an alcohol content of less than 70 percent and be packed in an airport shopping bag or in your hand luggage.

The airline states: "It is strictly prohibited to drink alcohol not purchased on board the aircraft and those caught consuming their own alcohol may be prosecuted."

Food

You are allowed to bring food into the cabin, but there is a 100ml limit for liquid food such as soup or custard. It's important to note that different countries have their own rules about importing food and drinks, so it's wise to check these before you fly.

The story continues

Hot drinks, baby food and milk

You can take your hot drinks on board, if they have been purchased at the airport and are securely sealed.

Parents will be relieved to know that the usual 100ml liquid limit does not apply to baby food, milk or sterilized water, as long as the total quantity does not exceed one litre. However, for safety reasons you may be asked to taste it.

Cigarettes and e-cigarettes

You can take cigarettes with you in your hand luggage, but please check the permitted quantity for the country of destination. Lighters are allowed on board but must be kept in your pocket, and the airline strictly prohibits matches on board.

For e-cigarettes, you may carry a maximum of two spare batteries in your hand luggage, but these cannot be placed in the hold. The airline emphasizes: "You are not allowed to smoke any type of cigarette on the plane. It is a criminal offense to do so. Charging e-cigarettes or vape devices is strictly prohibited on board."

sharp objects

Tweezers, scissors with rounded ends and blades less than 6 cm long can be taken into the cabin. Razor blades are only allowed in the cabin if they are wrapped in plastic.

Knives with a blade length of up to 6 cm are allowed on board. Other sharp objects are not allowed in the cabin.

Pets and assistance dogs

The airline states that animals are not allowed on their flights, but there is an exception for recognized registered guide and assistance dogs.

Camping equipment or stoves

Camping stoves and fuel containers containing a flammable liquid may only be carried in the hold of the aircraft, provided that all liquid has been removed from the container before flight. If you are transporting a used camping stove or fuel tank, easyJet warns that the empty fuel tank or container must be allowed to drain for at least an hour.

They add: "The fuel tank or container cap should then be left open for a minimum of six hours to allow any remaining fuel to evaporate. The fuel tank or container cap should be secure and wrapped in absorbent material such as paper towels. , and placed in a polyethylene bag or equivalent. The top of the bag should then be sealed or pleated and closed with an elastic band or string."

Christmas crackers or party poppers

Heading out for the holidays? You may take a maximum of two sealed boxes of crackers in the original packaging in your hand luggage. However, EasyJet recommends packing them in your hold luggage to avoid misunderstandings at security.

They warn: "Some crackers contain new items that are not allowed on board the aircraft. Some airports (such as London Gatwick and London Stansted) don't allow you to take crackers in your hand luggage, so check your airport's website for the most information. recent information before you travel. Party poppers cannot be taken on board the aircraft or placed in the hold."

Camera recording equipment

Cameras may exceed the dimensions of regular luggage (maximum dimensions 63 cm x 27 cm x 28 cm length x width x height). To minimize space use, they should be stored lengthwise in the overhead cupboard.

They do not need to be carried in a bag and cannot be stored under the seat in front of you. You should be able to easily disconnect and remove the lithium battery, easyJet warns.

Smart luggage

Smart luggage is a suitcase with a lithium battery or power bank that is used to power itself or charge other devices. There are restrictions on the type of lithium batteries allowed in the hold.

EasyJet has issued a statement saying: "If the smart baggage is to be checked in and placed in the hold, at Bag Drop you must disconnect and remove the lithium battery/power bank from the smart baggage and take it with you to the cabin. All exposed connections must are protected against short circuits."

They further added, "If the smart luggage needs to be carried in the cabin, you need to disconnect and remove the lithium battery/power bank from the smart luggage, but it can remain in the bag. In all cases, for safety reasons, the lithium battery/power bank must be disconnected, so if you cannot remove it from your luggage, we cannot accept the bag on board."

Instruments

EasyJet recommends taking out specialist travel insurance to cover your musical instrument before you travel.

They state that the size of musical instruments you can take on board as hand luggage depends on your hand luggage allowance, explaining: "Any instrument larger than 30 x 117 x 38 cm cannot be taken on board as hand luggage unless you have a buy a separate seat for it - and it meets our safety requirements."

"If you wish, you can add hold baggage for these items to your booking. Please ensure all instruments are securely packed."

The airline also clarified that any instrument larger than 30cm x 120cm x 38cm, such as a double bass or harp, cannot be taken on board the aircraft as hand luggage. Passengers must add hold baggage to their booking for these items and ensure they are securely packed.
