Easter Bunnies

(c) A-Z-Animals.com Easter is this coming weekend and as everyone knows, it is a Christian holiday remembering the death and resurrection of Jesus. But why at this time of year have animals such as lambs, chicks and most famously rabbits, become such iconic symbols of Easter?

Although its exact origins are not completely clear, the story of the Easter Bunny is thought to have become common during the 1800s. At this time of year, rabbits give birth to large litters of babies and so have become a symbol of new life at the start of spring. The decorating and hiding of eggs by the Easter Bunny is also a symbol of new life.
