Easington Colliery Unpolished

By Richard Randall @aude11360

I would like to start this blog post, by pointing out that the photos below are not indicative of the whole of Easington Colliery, but rather small pockets of decay.
I just wanted to highlight the grubbier side of Easington Colliery.
While Easington Colliery is a former coal mining town, and has seen major decline since the closing of the mine, it has not fared that badly all things considered. There is high unemployment, but there is also evidence of affluence; early risers obviously going off to work, and new or newish cars parked outside some of the properties.

Speaking to some of the older people who live in Easington Colliery, they all say the same thing, that it’s a shame the mine was closed down because there’s still plenty of coal to be mined, and it would provide jobs for the youngsters who seem to have little chance of employment.
There does seem to be quite a lot of houses that have been sold recently, and are currently being redeveloped, which is hopefully a good sign for the future of Easington Colliery.
