Dune: Part Two (2024) Review

Paul Atreides must unite with Chani and the Fremen whilst also seeking revenge against those who destroyed his family.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The focus of the story is very much on Paul attempting to be true to himself and what he believes he is capable of, as well as working wtih those who believe in him and those who don’t. He must also deal with the choice of just being with the love of his life and the fate of the universe, especially with the future he can foresee.

With that being the main thread of the film and story I did find the first 45-50 minutes quite tough to get into, but after that I really was hooked and wondering what was going to happen next. The introduction of Feyd-Rautha was a massive highlight and that sadistic nature certainly took it all up to the next level.

A few little twists and turns along the way which naturally I will not spoil, but parts that I was not expecting at all and made for a rather exciting closing scene and moments. Especially witnessing Paul starting to go on a power trip and get rather mad was not expected either, given that he had been quite calm throughout, but I guess that really does show his character development.

We all know that the wait for this film was extra long and many issues along the way, hence the 2.5 years between them, and I mean the third hasn’t even started filming which in all honesty I thought it was all just in these two parts.

The casting is truly outstanding though and each actor really owns the character they are playing. Timothee Chalamet continues to impress me in all honesty, I really do think he is fantastic in all the different roles he takes on and I really think he is great as Paul. The development he has shown throughout this film with the character was brilliant. The chemisty he has with Zendaya works very well, then we have Rebecca Ferguson taking it all up a notch. Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin both offering good support and Austin Butler truly stealing a few scenes as well! Florence Pugh felt more like an introduction and feels as though in the third part (when/if) we get it she will be more of a lead. Christopher Walken is always a pleasure to see on screen and as an Emperor is just great!

For me it took a while to get going, and I don’t think it was as visually stunning as the first film as it had taken more of a dark turn which meant those colours that we witnessed in that first part weren’t to be seen in this one, but I fully get that is due to how the story is going. Some impressive fighting moments as well.
