“Dumb Starbucks” is a Parody, an Art Gallery, and One Man’s American Dream.

That man is Nathan Fielder, host of Comedy Central’s Nathan For You.

He delighted and “befuddled” Los Angeles for a couple of days before revealing what was going on in a press conference last night. Essentially, he opened a Starbucks of his own (as a stunt, which he would straight-facedly deny) and everything was essentially the same as Starbucks with the word “Dumb” in front of it.

I got this Dumb Starbucks sign from CBS L.A. affilitate, I think. It was on Google.

Right now the Health Department has him shut down because even though he claims that the coffee he’s serving is “art” because the parody clause of U.S. Law only covers art, well, they’re the Health Department and sure, kid, whatever—shut it down. So as of right now, we don’t know if the Starbucks corporate lawyers would have gotten him shut down or not.

Maybe we’ll find out when he opens a Dumb Starbucks in Brooklyn, which he plans to do.

In a side note, I was curious to find out if Norah Jones would turn out to be litigious.

This photo I got from scpr.org, a page by someone named Mike Roe.
