Dual Loyalties

By Gldmeier @gldmeier
Rabbi Yitzchok Goldknopf, head of the Agudat Yisrael faction of UTJ (and maybe the future head of UTJ in the next Knesset, depending), today announced a brilliant idea.
In recent elections over the past couple of years, MK Benjamin Netanyahu pressured his potential coalition partners to declare, and sometimes even to sign, loyalty pledges that they will only enter a coalition with him at the head of it and will not join a coalition led by anyone else.
Goldknopf today suggested that they are going to demand Netanyahu sign a similar loyalty pledge to them, to the Haredi parties, saying that he wont go into a coalition without them. Considering that he has done so before, such as in 2015 when he left the Haredi parties behind and formed a government without them despite their having supported him.
I think that is a brilliant idea. If a pledge is required, it should be required in both directions.
