A three-piece hailing from just down the road from us in Fleet, Drug Store Romeos have shared the video (directed, edited and filmed during lockdown by singer Sarah Downey) for new single ‘Quotations for Locations’. The release follows praise from The FADER and 6 Music and shows with The Big Moon and Soccer Mommy. The band have also announced a new headline show at SET Dalston on 19 November – tickets available HERE.
There’s a minimalist yet off-kilter approach running throughout the instrumentation and lyrics as Sarah sings the title three times over a Krautcock backing before abass line heralds a more experimental – yet still playful – edge. Falling somewhere between the shuffling indie sound of previous gig buddies The Orielles and the hypnotic electronic-infused quirks of Let’s Eat Grandma, there’s also an emo edge as Sarah examines how ‘there is no kind of growth without moving’ before declaring – in fittingly abstract terms – how ‘the ball is in my court but my hands are my racket’.
