A man who was amongst a group of people consuming drugs drowned after jumping into the Kalu Ganga in Godigamuwa, Ratnapura in excitement on seeing a group of Criminal Investigation Bureau officials from Ratnapura who were returning from a raid they had conducted on Tuesday.
Ratnapura Police say that the team of Police officers were on another crime raid.
Three of the four drug addicts who were consuming drugs on the banks of the Kalu Ganga on seeing the officers coming had jumped into the waters as they thought the Police were coming for them.
Police say that two people were able to swim to the opposite bank of the river but one person had drowned.The deceased has been identified as K.M. Bandusena, a resident of Olugala, Ratnapura. Police are investigating.
