Shove that festive diet aside – it’s time to get stylish
Trying to stay fashionable after a Christmas diet of chocolate, three course meals, beautiful bottles of red wine and more chocolate gateaux than a glutton with a year’s supply of Nestle vouchers is like trying to beat Angelina Jolie in a pouting competition – you ain’t gonna win.
But with the New Year comes new resolutions. Why not resolve to stay stylish in 2015?
Reaching an ascendancy of style doesn’t have to be back-breaking labour – especially not with these tips.
Tend to the skin you’re in
That endless diet of festive junk will make your skin look like it’s been doused in chip fat. And, no matter how many health foods you devour, erasing those spots from your face can prove nightmarish.
However, the new wave of blackhead remover products is going toe to toe with spots and knocking them onto the canvas with a firm left hook.
Apply the best of these creams every day (and be sure to moisturise) and that spotty complexion will be looking cleaner and clearer by the end of the month.
Your 15 a day
Trying to get off the sofa after a glut of Christmas chocolates feels like trying to push a tractor up a hill – it just isn’t worth the effort.
But that’s partly because people place too much emphasis on long and arduous workout bouts. And, unless you’re looking for a body from a Victoria’s Secret catalogue, the reality is far different.
Try to fit in 15 minutes of solid exercise a day to get your body pumping and, over a slow period of time, you’ll look fitter and healthier.
Once you’ve broken the 15 minute seal, you’ll soon want to exercise that little bit longer, even if only for an extra five minutes or so. Work on all the quadrants of your body and the benefits of a little bit of movement will make themselves clear quickly.
Look at the classics
There’s a reason why the world still obsesses over the glitz and glam of Marilyn Monroe and Katherine Hepburn – their styles are timeless.
While they might hearken back to the golden age of the 50s, there is also an understated use of whites and blacks to suit any situation.
Study those fashion icons and take a leaf from their book. Whether you’re attending an upmarket cocktail party or a scuzzy nightclub, you’ll be the best dressed person in the room.
Five a day
While the holidays might be over, your diet might not have shifted. If you’re still living on high-carb meals and feasting on turkeys, it’s time to stop.
Invest in superfoods, items high in vitamins and minerals, and make plenty of fruit and veg-loaded meals.
Style might look like it’s about the clothes you wear, but it’s really about a healthy, balanced diet. Get that balance right and you’ll look spiffy for the year to come.
