Story: Drift starts as Jacqueline Kamara (Erivo) has escaped her war-torn country to a Greek island. She has nothing and trying to go unnoticed from a town searching for immigrants. The struggle gives her different problems each day, but ones she isn’t afraid to overcome.
Jacqueline meets a tour guide Callie (Shawkat) who presents a friendship she hasn’t had in a while. Meanwhile, she looks back on her life when the war hit her family.
Verdict on Drift
Drift is a drama following a woman trying to find safety after her homeland is attacked. She finds herself in Greece, where she spends each day trying to survive. Things change when she meets a local tour guide, who gives her a fresh take on life and hope.
This movie shows us how people from different worlds can meet in the strangest places. It shows how people can have been through the worst thing imaginable and survive to find hope of something fresh. The performances are brilliant with Cynthia Erivo giving one of the most heartbreaking sequences in recent years. The movie makes you feel like it is a natural environment on the Greek island. It is a moving journey and one we could hear countless horror stories from Jacqueline’s life. The horror of the attack will stick with you as the movie builds to the horrific moment.
