Right after Kawaii Cafe, I started to grow a liking for a cafe that allows you to dress up either as your favorite anime character or other countries traditional costumes. For this month’s JaVaMay Meetup, Janine brought us to Korea through Cafe Tiala. JaVaMay Meetup is a monthly activity that the three of us (Janine, Vanessa and May) get together. For the venue and activities that we are going to do on that day, we decided to have each of us have a say and to plan out our activities in advance. And for this month, it’s Janine’s turn.
I’ve heard of Cafe Tiala for a while now, unlike Kawaii cafe, Cafe Tiala has been in Cebu for almost 3 years now. There’s been a lot of Korean cafe in Cebu but what sets Cafe Tiala different from most of them are the costumes. And it’s not just that, since it’s a princess cafe, their staffs are wearing Lolita outfits which is really cute.
Exterior and Interior Setup
Before you get inside, you will be greeted with a very girly exterior with a pink signboard and pink chairs that goes perfectly with the green artificial grass floor.
Cafe Tiala is divided into different rooms thus giving their customers their well deserved privacy. It was a little cramp than Kawaii Cafe with a narrow pathway for the customer to walk through when ordering or when you need to go to the cashier but the rooms were enclosed in a way most customers will love because of a total privacy it provides.
Cafe Tiala has different types of rooms available – DVD player room, nail art room, relaxing room and study room. Since we went there on a weekend, almost all the rooms were occupied excluding the nail art room and study room which occupies all the second floor.
Food
Their food tastes fine and looks fine. Since it’s a Korean cafe, their menu includes a Korean dishes. I don’t think you can say it’s an authentic Korean dishes but I guess the taste we’re kind of the same as the original or almost on the way there.
The prices were quite heavy on the budget but I guess that goes to all other cafes in the metro.
Costumes
When I checked some later posts about Cafe Tiala, I saw some customers trying out other costumes like one from Olaf but when we went there, there’s only hanbok and some other Korean traditional dresses available. And majority of them were not in proper condition. That’s understandable ofcourse since there are some customers who doesn’t handle them with care.
Location
It was really my first time so I just blindly followed the map that I spent some time researching. Riding a taxi was never in mind since it’s going to be expensive. After successfully locating the place, I just realized how easy it could be located without the underpass blocking it’s signboard lol. So yep, I included the map I followed when I went Dora the explorer last Saturday. To make it so much easier, you just need to follow the Pag-ibig building and on the left side, follow the road then count for outmost 5 minutes (or more if you’re a slow walker) and look at the opposite road for the Cafe Tiala signboard. Believe me, you wouldn’t miss that out because of its very girly signboard.
Our experience
Almost all the rooms were occupied except the nail art and study room, and since the latter has so much space on them, we decided to head to the second floor. It was definitely meant for studying as you can only see tables and 4 amazing bears you can cuddle with while you’re studying. It was perfect for us too since we’ve got the whole floor for ourselves thus exhausting our time picture taking haha.
We only ordered individual drinks and the Tiala sandwich (which really tastes good) and the Tteok Bokki (which is quite spicy). They have no fries available unless you order their burger. I love Chinese and some Japanese foods but I dislike most Korean dishes.
Our stay there consists of some idle and quite boring moments because of the lack of things to do since we failed to get or at least reserve a DVD playroom for ourselves. But that changed when we decided to try out their hanbok costume. My! I may a fan of Korean dishes and their culture but I love playing dressing up haha.
