We were recently sent a Ladybug battery operated night light from Dreambaby® to try out. The light is battery operated so there are no wires that could be dangerous to your little person. The light features LED bulbs which cast a soft white light from the sides and a soft red glow from the top with no noticeable generated heat and are also cost effective. 
The light has a timer that turns off automatically after 30 minutes. There's also a manual on and off button which is chunky and easily accessible, even for small fingers.
The little man is quiet taken by the light, though I think he thinks that because it's cute and looks like a ladybird, that it's a toy. He like to press the button when he's getting into bed and then happily watched it on his bedside table until he falls asleep. 
The light takes 3 AAA batteries which don't come with it. We always make sure we have a battery stash so this wasn't an issue for us. The light gives off quite a substantial glow and looks really cute. I'm really impressed and love how user friendly the light is. I think it's a lovely addition to any small persons bedroom.
