Dream Police is the side project of Mark Perro and Nick Chiericozzi more known as founding members of The Men. The project started back in 2010 as a vehicle to explore ideas that wouldn’t normally fit with the band. Four years on and the side project has evolved into a full LP release via Sacred Bones later this fall.
While I wasn’t a huge fan of their former track “Hypnotized”, the duo comes through with a fascinating synthesis of drum machines, lush synth work and lengthy exploring guitar riffs on their latest track “Pouring Rain”. I especially love how the grainy vocals are fitted into the mix. I’ve read the track being compared to songs on The War On Drugs brilliant Lost In The Dreams, and while that observation isn’t completely out of context, the production and instrumentation has a lo-fi textured art-rock thing going on that at least to me, sounds fairly idiosyncratic. And the soaring riffs at tail-end are absolutely sublime.
