Raise your hand if you dread swimsuit shopping. Ugh. As much as I love the sport of retail therapy, finding a flattering bathing suit is always a miserable experience. I have always envied those gals with hourglass figures. Me? I’m built like a tree trunk. Short-waited with a Buddha belly. You know, the ones that 2-years olds have and everyone thinks it’s so cute. Only I never outgrew mine… Instead of a concave stomach, mine has a gentle roundness like I’ve always eaten a bit too much at my last meal. I’ve learned what types of cuts work with my body to give the illusion of a waist which is why you generally see me in drop-waisted dresses or frocks with an empire silhouette.
As I approach the BIG 5-0 I can’t help but look in the mirror and think that maybe it’s time for some self-improvement. Aside from the benefits that plastic surgery can provide for your physical features, there are also a number of psychological benefits to undergoing cosmetic procedures. Research shows plastic surgery leads to higher self-esteem and boosts happiness for those without 'unreasonable' expectations. In the latest study published in Clinical Psychology Science, the psychologists tested the patients before surgery, as well as three, six and 12 months afterwards. Compared to those who had chosen not to have plastic surgery, the patients who opted for surgery "felt healthier, were less anxious, had developed more self-esteem and found the operated body feature in particular, but also their body as a whole, more attractive," the researchers wrote. This boost in self esteem could be one of the reasons there were more than 10 million cosmetic procedures performed in the United States last year, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Let’s be real, you can diet and do a million crunches all day long but at a certain age body contouring procedures such as breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction and a tummy tuck are really the only way to drastically reduce the appearance of trouble spots. I am all about a nip, tuck, tweak and boost. Bring. It. On.
