DPRK state media reported on 7 December (Saturday) that Premier Pak Pong Ju visited the State Academy of Sciences.  Pak made his visit to mark the academy’s 61st anniversary (it was founded on 1 December 1952) and he”learned in detail about specifications of ultra-modern equipment and their economical efficiency and how they are applied to the production and encouraged those scientists and technicians in their vigorous campaign of technology and brains for developing new technology and products.”  Pak also toured the construction of the Unjong scientists’ district near the academy.  Pak convened a meeting of academy managers and employees.  The meeting addressed “steps for building well the quarter into the Chuch’e-based scientific research base and a development and dissemination base for IT, Nano-technology, energy engineering and other latest science and technology.”  According to KCNA, Pak Pong Ju said that “that the academy has developed into a reliable center of the nation for scientific researches under the wise leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea” and  ”called for making greater scientific and technological achievements to glorify the undying feats performed by President Kim Il Sung (Kim Il-so’ng) and leader Kim Jong Il (Kim Cho’ng-il) and carry out the plan of Marshal Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n) for building a thriving nation.
