DPRK state media reported on 4 January (Friday) that DPRK Cabinet Premier Choe Yong Rim visited the 8 February Jiktong Youth Coal Mine and the Pukch’ang Thermal Power Complex in South P’yo’ngan Province. Choe’s first visit was to the 8 February Jiktong Youth Coal Mine “to give a pep-talk to the coal-miners in their drive for increased production.”
Choe also visited Pukch’ang Thermal Power Complex. Choe “encouraged the electricity producers who turned out in the general offensive for consolidating the springboard for building an economic power after receiving the historic new year address of the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un.” Choe toured the complex and convened a meeting with the complex’s management and local officials. Choe quoted from KJU’s New Year’s Address and “stressed the need to spur the building of an economic power by increasing the coal and electricity production.” During the meeting, according to KCNA, “the significance of the increase in the coal and electricity production was mentioned and the issue to tighten mutual cooperation between the power industry and the coal industry was also discussed,” “measures were taken to timely provide the materials in need for repairing equipment to increase the electricity production and to supply the power to the coal-mines tasked with the supply of coal for electricity production” and “”increasing the coal production by providing the coal-mines in the areas of Pukch’ang, To’kch’o'n and Tukjang with key materials to meet their demand and by reasonably choosing the places of producing and supplying prop timbers.”
During 2012, Choe visited the Pukch’ang Thermal Power Complex on 9 February and in early December.
