DPRK state media reported on 18 February (Tuesday) that Premier Pak Pong Ju visited the renovation sports village on Cho’ngch’un Street in Pyongyang and the Anju Area Coal Mining Complex.  Pak conducted a “field survey” at the coal mining complex near Anju in South P’yo’ngan Province.  Pak also visited the renovation work at the sports village in Mangyo’ngdae where, according to KCNA, “soldier-builders and people have modernized the gymnasiums in the sports village by their concerted efforts.”  Pak Pong Ju toured “the rooms dedicated to their history, training halls, lounges for players and rooms for press conference, etc. of the basketball, volleyball and swimming gymnasiums to learn about the overall progress made in the projects.”  After his tour he led a meeting of relevant officials and functionaries.  At the meeting he noted that “sports play a big role in instilling strong national pride and honor into the people”  and Pak “underlined the need to successfully operate the gymnasiums as required by the desire to build a sports power.”  Pak also received a briefing on the renovation of the May Day Stadium and “took measures for settling the issues arising in the project.”
