D.P. is directed by Han Jun Hee based on the webtoon “D.P. Dog Day” written by Kim Bo Tong. The nuanced portrayal of military culture and its evils has riveted fans across Asia. To the utmost delight of fans, Kim Bo Tong is also collaborating on the series as co-writer.
The first season left viewers on the edge of their seats, with a devastating finale that shook the audience to their core. Cho-Suk Bong, a peace loving person who is driven off the rails by bullying seniors, takes a bully hostage, and eventually shoots himself. The news of his suicide attempt reaches his friend Luffy who finds the courage to confront his bullies and shoots at them. On the other hand Joon-Ho is faced with the question, why he didn’t do anything when a person like Woo-Suk was bullied.
The series questions the formalization of toxic masculinity, bullying, and shaming of people in the military in a country that mandates at least 2 years of military service by all males.

Season 2 has a lot to delve into after the harrowing events of the finale. It will raise more questions and challenge the audiences to change their perspective.
D.P. season 1 had equal response from audiences and critics. With impressive ratings of 8.8 on IMDb and 8.8 on MyDramaList, the series has solidified its position as a standout South Korean drama. One could say that it is at par with a series like Kingdom in terms of popularity. It stayed in the top 10 of South Korean charts for 8 continuous weeks.
Although the series didn’t perform as well in America as it did in the Asia Pacific region, Netflix’s commitment to a second season is commendable and well thought out. The filming for the season is done and we’ll have a chance to dive into the world of D.P. on July 28th.
Fans are eager to witness another chapter of this thought-provoking K-drama, charged emotionally and filled with philosophical conflicts around the issues of morality, duty, human decency, and respect. The raw intensity of the events of the season finale and the overall excitement of the first season make the second season a must watch for K-drama fans.
