English Shorthand and General English test is optional. The selected candidates who are found to fit in both Hindi and English as per the prescribed standard will be entitled to bilingual allowance as prescribed by the Government from time to time.

UPPSC APS Syllabus for Paper III – Hindi Short Hand

For an APS post, a speed of 80 words per minute in Hindi shorthand is required. Candidates will be given one hour to write the prescribed prose in shorthand. Prose will be selected to test not only the speed of shorthand but also the knowledge of idiomatic language.

UPPSC Additional Private Secretary Syllabus Paper IV – Hindi Type Writing

For an APS post, a speed of 25 words per minute in Hindi typing is required. In Hindi Type Test, candidates obtaining a speed less than this will not be considered eligible. A candidate achieving a speed of 25 words per minute will be awarded 10 marks and for every 5 words per minute more speed the candidates will be given 1 additional mark. But the total marks obtained will not exceed 15 marks. Total marks will be as follows:

UPPSC APS English Shorthand – English Short Hand (Optional)

 English Typewriting | Paper VII – English Type Writing (Optional)

For an APS post, a speed of 25 words per minute in English typing is required. In the English Type Test, candidates scoring less than this will not be considered eligible.
