Dove has apologized for a social media post that the company says “missed the mark” representing black women.
In the now-deleted ad, a Black woman can be seen wearing a brown shirt before removing it to reveal a white woman wearing a much lighter colored shirt.
Dove has since taken down the body wash ad that was posted Friday to the brand’s Facebook page.
The ad was brought to everyone’s attention by beauty blogger, and makeup artist, Naythemua.
“An image we recently posted on Facebook missed the mark in representing women of color thoughtfully,” the company tweeted on Saturday. “We deeply regret the offense, it caused.
