The Commemorative Air Force’s Skytrooper stands at attention during the Planes of Fame airshow.  The C-53 Skytrooper is a specialized troop transport version of the C-47 Skytrain.  It lacks the cargo door, hoist attachment and reinforced floor of the C-47.  Only a total of 380 aircraft were produced in all because the C-47 was found to be more versatile.  Delivered in 1943, this aircraft participated in D-Day and towed gliders carrying reinforcements to 101st Division troops who had been dropped earlier in the night near Utah Beach.  This Skytrooper flew three missions on D-Day and the next day.
