Departing the Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show in Half Moon Bay is this classic C-47 Skytrain military transport, developed from the civilian DC-3 airliner and veteran of extensive service during World War II. This C-47, named “Betsy’s Biscuit Bomber”, became part of the Estrella Warbird Museum collection in May 2007. She saw wartime service with the 9th AF before working for the Belgium, French, and Israeli Air Forces prior to landing in Canada. She was returned to flight status August 1st, 2009. First flown in 1941, more than 10,000 of these iconic transports were produced. Approximately 100 countries’ armed forces have operated the C-47 with over 60 variants of the aircraft produced. As with the civilian DC-3, the C-47 remains in service in the present day with some nations. In June 1975 the USAF retired their last C-47 in service.
