Post-airshow traffic headed off-base is typically a frustrating exercise and it was no different leaving the Wings Over Solano airshow.  Luckily my exit route crawled past the collection of the Travis AFB Heritage Center so I took the opportunity to pull into the lot and check out the outdoor collection.  I enjoy seeing on-base aircraft exhibits since the restricted public access keeps the aircraft in better shape.

First flown in 1949 and serving until 1974, the Globemaster was the largest and last piston-powered driven transport employed by the US military.  This example was rescued in 1982 from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland where it had been used for parts storage.  Significant maintenance work was performed to make her airworthy and she made the flight to Travis on June 10, 1984.
