@ New Orleans, LA
September 2024
This was from my first trip to the Jackson Barracks Military Museum in New Orleans, where their collection focuses on Louisiana’s National Guard history. Here is a Douglas A-26 Invader bomber on outdoor display. The A-26 light bomber was the 122nd Bomber Squadron’s primary aircraft from 1947 to 1957. The Museum sought one for their collection and finally found one in Santiago, Chile. After eighteen months of restoration effort, this A-26 (44-35937), was put on display in April, 1997 in the Museum’s new Air Park. First flown in 1942, more than 2,500 would be produced and used worldwide and see action in multiple wars. The last A-26 in active duty was retired from the Colombian Air Force in 1980.
