Double Roti sandwich bar and cafe serves much more. It has Pita breads, Tortilla, Burgers, Hot Dogs and as expected Sandwiches too both in white bread and brown bread option. The interiors are simple but funky. Interesting surd one-liner (Owner is a surd), yellow color in the background, plating in different types of girdle, tawa and jar gives this place a character.
I start by ordering
Lamb Chilly Fries (145) and
Char Grilled Pork Teriyaki burger (265). The chilly has good bites, is sufficient for crisp and cheesy fries and certainly gives oomph and lamby flavors to humble fries. Burger is even better and a delight for any pork lover. Thankfully it has less of veggies, none of tomato or onion and retains moisture without getting the bun soggy. The crisp bacon with Teriyaki, mustard and bbq sauce takes this experience to a different level. My only wish is the patty should be a tad bigger to fill the bun completely.
Moving on to something healthy,
Greek Pita Sandwich (200) has fresh pesto and chicken coated in Greek yogurt and impresses both with quality of pesto as well as the serving size. In the meantime I see
Turkey Pastrami sandwich in the menu. In all my knowledge no other cafe or restaurant in its class serves this beauty in Gurgaon. Perhaps the most expensive item on the menu at Rs285, it is a treat. Imported delicatessen meat with mustard and cheese sauce in a grilled to perfection bread, is love at every bite.
I am full by now and so is my friend. However greed takes over us. We ask for further recommendation from the smart owner Japtej Ahluwalia who left his F&B job at ITC Chennai to start this venture. He recommends
Chilly Hotdog and suggest we try something from vegetarian spread too. Oops! The carnivore in us never once made us think there is much beyond the ‘meat-life’. And we ask for
paneer bhurji toasty (125).
The meat balls with outstanding lamb chilly topped with cheese and baked is another sinful delight. I am in heaven and enjoy the paneer bhurji toasty equally.
Desserts are served in take away jars and I try the
red velvet cake (150). The cheese has become bit hard and the cake is not as moist; a sign of bad storage in a small outlet.
I like the hand beaten coffee (85) but tea (75) at any small shop will give me far more satisfaction.
Service is pleasing, quick and efficient. I remember seeing another guest walks in and Japtej remembers what they ordered last time and quickly offers suggestions. It is certainly a welcome feeling.
Overall, Double Roti is a great find. The prices are very competitive for a market like Galleria and portion size is good. This place is certainly going to see me again.
