Donuts Beats Google To .MBA; Google Wins .PHD

Posted on the 18 March 2015 by Worldwide @thedomains

Two more new gTLD strings that were scheduled to go to a ICANN Last Resort Auction next week, have been settled privately.

Donuts won rights to operate the .MBA new domain extension, beating out Google and a company known as Your Dot Phd, Inc. Yourdotphd.com

Google won the rights to operate the new gTLD, .PHD beating out Your Dot Phd, Inc.

There are plenty of new gTLD’s in the education vertical including .education,  .school, and .university all owned by Donuts  and .College which is owned by the same company that owns .XYZ.  Of course there is also a legacy extension .edu.

I like .phd better than I do .mba since people who have  PHD’s  usually add that to the end of their name when they write their name.

So I can see .PHD being used by people who have one, similar to .ESQ for lawyers which Google also owns.

The loser of both of these new strings, Your Dot Phd, Inc.  only applied to operate these two new gTLD’s.

Donuts did not apply for .PHD
