Don’t Let Your Wedding Accessories Overpower Your Ensemble

By Weddingblog2011

Your wedding accessories have the power to make or break your wedding ensemble. Here are some tips to help you make sure they complement your outfit instead of weigh it down.

Wedding accessories are an important part of any wedding day ensemble, but they have the power to influence your outfit in both good and bad ways. You want your wedding accessories to stand out, but you don’t want them drowning out the look of your gown or overwhelming your features. The last thing you want is to create an eyesore with your outfit, and this often happens to brides who overdo it with their accessories.

Use the following tips to make sure you don’t overpower your ensemble with your wedding accessories:

Balance it out—Proportion is the most important thing to keep in mind when deciding which wedding accessories to wear. If you wear an elaborate necklace, earrings, and a bracelet all together, it’s likely your accessories will distract from the gown. To balance your ensemble out, try wearing only one main accessory, such as a necklace. Or, if you plan on wearing an extravagant pair of chandelier earrings, skip the necklace or tiara.

Choose similar styles—Whichever accessories you decide on, make sure they are similar in style to your dress. If the styles are different, there is a good chance your ensemble will clash and that the accessories will overpower the dress and distract from it. For example, if you’re sporting a vintage, old-fashioned gown, certain cotemporary jewels might not blend very well with your classic look.

Match the tone of the wedding—Another way to ensure that your wedding accessories don’t overpower your ensemble is to make sure the pieces you wear complement the tone and style of your wedding occasion. If your wedding has a very cosmopolitan, hip atmosphere, fashion-forward accessories will suit your look better than old-fashioned pearls, for example. If your event is going to be very informal, don’t deck yourself out in lavish diamonds and a fancy tiara. If your wedding accessories don’t match the tone or formality of your wedding, they will easily overpower your look and cause a distraction.
