Don’t Forget to Enjoy

By Lisaorchard @lisaorchard1

Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you. I’m back after a week of work and writing. I didn’t do as much running this week because it’s getting darker earlier. Winter is coming and the season of hibernation will soon be upon us.

But enough about that, today I’d like to talk about changing our perspective on life. Most of us live life as if it’s a problem to be solved. We go from one crisis to another, solving problems along the way. We need money, so we find a job. We have to deal with problems and issues at work, so we do. We solve problems at work and in our home lives.

But let’s not forget to enjoy. Sometimes we get so inundated with issues, we forget to take a few moments to enjoy. My humble opinion is this, when we take time to enjoy…it makes the obstacles we run into easier to overcome.

It sounds hard to find the joy in our everyday life when we’re putting out fires, but if we start small we can. For example, it can be something as simple as enjoying that first cup of coffee in the morning. I mean really enjoying it. The taste and how it warms up your insides when you swallow it.

Or it could be as simple as waking before everyone and enjoying that solitude before your household starts to bustle with activity as everyone gets ready to go where they need to go.

Other small joys are taking a walk in the woods, or reading a good book, or practicing yoga for a few minutes during the day. By adding small joys throughout our day, we increase the quality of the day, and soon we’re handling those fires that creep in and overwhelm that much better.

Sometimes we need bigger moments to enjoy. For example, planning a trip. Something to look forward to as you grind your way through the work week. Planning a vacation is an excellent way to enjoy. We get the joy of planning the vacation, as well as the joy of looking forward to it. I’ve found when I have something to look forward to, it makes the everyday grind bearable. Then of course, there’s the enjoyment of the vacation itself.

So, there you have it. Adding small joys to your everyday grind will make you happier and feel more fulfilled. How about you? What small joys do you add to your everyday life? Leave a comment! I’d love to hear from you!
