Right, the musician famous for Jolene, Coat of Many Colors, 9 through 5 and numerous other hits is actually helping the world heal. Parton, a native of Tennessee, donated $ 1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. The medical center then helped develop it Moderna's vaccinewhich the company says is 94.5% effective against COVID-19 in preliminary findings.
Parton is even mentioned in the New England Journal of Medicine. A report on the vaccine lists the Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund as a supporter of Vanderbilt research.
In April, Parton tweeted, "My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who has been doing research at Vanderbilt for many years, announced that he has made some exciting strides in researching the coronavirus for a cure." She then wrote, "I am donating $ 1 million to Vanderbilt for this research and encouraging people who can afford to donate."
On Tuesday, when news of the singer's involvement spread, Parton herself reacted in her typically humble manner.
"When I donated the money to the Covid Fund, I just wanted it to be good for you, and obviously it is!" Parton wrote. "Let's just hope we can find a cure soon."

And their fans responded with thanks and excitement. "Go Dolly!" wrote a Twitter user. "Ethical, responsible and humanitarian through and through - such an inspiration! This positive energy is exactly what we need!"
Another said, "Dolly Parton is just an amazing woman. Gives books to disadvantaged children, writes some of the best songs of all time, and is now helping end a pandemic." (Parton's Dolly Parton's Imagination Library offers free books to children around the world.)
