Queensland isn’t the only place in Australia packed with stunning beaches, with Darwin full of plenty of picture-perfect beachfront.

Darwin

Darwin, Northern Territory

Making for the perfect place to refresh and relax in the region’s hot climate!

Vesteys Beach

Vesteys Beach is the largest beach in Darwin, stretching out 2.2 kilometres of sandy shore. Its main popularity comes for being a haven of boat lovers, home to the Darwin powerboat, trailer boat, and sailing clubs. The strip of sand has two large boat ramps lined up for small boats to anchor on, or even folk to fish off. Many come to the beach to simply watch the boats drifting in and out of the sea, even visiting the clubhouse to learn a little bit more about the local culture. Swimming is permitted depending on the time, with the region home to the local crocs and sharks, as well as jellyfish during certain months-but simply check with the authorities prior to diving in!

Mindil Beach

When asking any local about the best Darwin Beach, all will tell you of Mindil Beach! It is the place to be on a hot summer’s day, with both locals and tourists filling up the sand and surf. A beach sunset market is held right along the shore, operating every Thursday and Sunday from the months of April to October. So, visitors can enjoy a full day at the beach, and finish up with a stroll through the 300 stalls and grabbing some delicious market food for dinner! Mindil Beach Sunset Market is sure to impress.

Recreation Lagoon

Many visitors can get a bit worried about the not so friendly wildlife Darwin is known to have in its waters, being put off from the occasional croc, shark, and jellyfish attack. Luckily, there is an alternative, known as the Recreation Lagoon. A man-made beach in Darwin that has a seawall specifically designed to keep the dangerous animals out. Continuously patrolled by lifeguards, it is the safest beach to visit, with many tourist and local families spending the day here!

Wave Lagoon

Another fantastic man-made pool in Darwin adds a bit of excitement to a regular beach day. A complete wave lagoon with man-made waves that crash on the shores in ten minutes intervals. Capable of producing waves of up to 1.2metres, many opt to bring their boogie boards or floatation devices to the beach to really enjoy the waves!
