A 35-year-old married doctor who worked at the Thambuttegama Government Hospital was found dead yesterday afternoon (13) mysteriously inside his quarters. Amila Sandakelum Dissanayaka, a doctor who worked in the kidney unit, has died this way. Police said that he is a resident of Narammala. A hospital employee had come to the doctor’s office to find out about the doctor’s failure to report for work for three days that due to a smell coming from the direction of the official house, he had gone inside the quarters and found the doctor’s body lying motionless on his bed.
Police say that the doctor who runs a private medical center in Tambuttegama had been working there three days ago and it appears that the death occurred after the medical center was closed at around 7 pm and he went to his official quarters.
Investigators suspect that the death of this doctor may have been due to an overdose of insulin injected into the body. The police say that there was also an insulin vial near his bed. This doctor is also married to a female doctor. Police said she is a dentist working at Kurunegala Hospital. Police said they have a child aged three years and six months.
Investigations have revealed that the two doctors are living separately due to a family dispute that has arisen between them. Police said that the possibility of discovering the exact cause of the doctor’s death will be revealed in the post-mortem examination and the post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted today (14).
