Do Your Men #ShareTheLoad?

By Dr.jenifer Sayyed @SayyedJenifer

COVID19 has thwarted our life and to eradicate it, we need to do our best by maintaining social distance.

The lockdown was the first and crucial step by the government to minimize the virus spread. However, we didn’t expect it to be so long, and it indeed affected all of us.

As they say, times of crisis bring people closer. This lockdown, not only brought the family together, but also bring out the best version of each one. It opened the ways of our passion or something which we always wanted to try out. Some were never a good cook including myself, but I made sumptuous dishes that surprised me and also motivated.

On the other side, Lockdown has seen an unprecedented increase in the domestic chores for the women of the house. We have to balance both house and office work which makes us go crazy.

Stay At Home and Share the Load

Do your Men #ShareTheLoad?Share the laundry

Although we two people only stay at home, still the housework has risen up. Be it cooking, cleaning, or washing, it is a big mess as there is no help from the maid unlike before. Also, the cleaning has to be done properly now, due to disinfection, so it takes more time than before.

As my husband had to do work from home, so I couldn’t tell him my woes. But he saw how hard I am working to keep home steady and clean without any complaints. So, he himself told me, “Let’s divide our home duties”. I knew he had always been a good husband and helped me during weekends and holidays. But now during the lockdown, he started sharing the load even on weekdays.

Before the clock reaches his working hour, we do household chores together. If I do cleaning, he does the washing. Sometimes he cooks and I bring the grocery items. So, like this, we both are happy and that makes our bonding stronger.

Check out this video where he is sharing the laundry work with a “big” smile on his face.

Sharing the load is sharing the love

Sharing the load is sharing the love which makes work less tedious. We turn on our favorite music and simultaneously complete home duties. So, it becomes fun while working and alleviates the mood.

I am blessed to have a righteous husband and this lockdown has made us closer.  This is the true essence of being equal partners, share the load because Sharing is Caring.

Do your Men #ShareTheLoad? Do your Men #ShareTheLoad?

Sharing Chores, Multiply Love

When I shared about my experience with my friends and family, I came to know that even their spouse and men at home are supporting and sharing the load. Like my partner, I came to know many spectacular men have begun to #ShareTheLoad and made it a joyful, loving part in their homes.

My brother, who had never done much work at home, started helping my mother and sister after he realized that my sister along with office work is helping my mom with household chores too. Although he is not good at work, still he is trying and that means a lot. He does laundry at home since that is the easiest task to start with to help in domestic chores. Further, my father also joined him and now they do laundry and cleaning too.

My friends are teaching their little sons by asking them to do small things like water the plants, keep their stuff at the right place, etc. because sons of today become the husbands of tomorrow.

It is moments like these that make a happy home. A small gesture goes a long way.

Brothers if you’re reading this, this is your opportunity to recognize that domestic chores are not limited to the women of the household. Start sharing right away, no matter how much smaller works, it may be; they will appreciate it.

For the women of the household, encourage your men to share the load, because, like charity, good work begins at home.

I will wait for your stories and experience! Till then have a look at the short film that further contextualizes the sharing of load happening at homes during the lockdown.
