Classics! The evergreen of literature. These are the kind of books that are niche in their category and also in the reader base. I could go on a limb and say that literature probably originated with these classics. The art of penmanship and storytelling started with these novels. The language used in the books, the settings, the scenes, the drama, the characters and their behavior to one another – ‘timeless’ originates from the feel of these books.
Be it romancing with Jane Austen through Pride and Prejudice or Emma, unraveling a mystery with Robert Louis Stevenson through The Strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, there is something for everybody here. You could go on an adventure in Treasure Island, get engrossed in Drama through Romeo and Juliet or Macbeth, learn of the Christmas Past through The Christmas Carol, get scared through Dracula or Frankenstein or relax with a cup of tea with Little woman.
Classics cannot be ignored. I doubt there would be a single reader in the world who has not read at least one classic in their lifetime of reading. But not all just go for it. Some love it, some swear by it and some find it difficult to comprehend. Whether you love it or you hate it, you cannot ignore it – that is classics in literature.
