Do We Care About the Oscars?
The idea behind this is to look back at every single film that was nominated for,
· Best Picture
· Best Actor
· Best Actress
· Best Supporting Actor
· Best Supporting Actress
· Best Director
By looking back at these I will be asking the questions below to find out whether this is a film to be watched or not. This is not a full review and if I have seen the film in question I will give my rating of said film. I will also not be comparing or suggesting any other films that could or should have won this is just looking at a film and seeing if it still stands in the memory.
Film: Selma
Oscar Wins: 1 Best Original Song.
Oscar Nominations: 1 Best Picture
Have I Seen It?
Yes – My Rating 87%
Will I Watch It Again? Yes.
Should Everyone Have Seen It? I do because I feel it is an important part of history.
Most Memorable Part? Bridge scenes.
Thoughts On the Film: I thought this film helped tell an important chapter of the Martin Luthor King story and his campaign to secure equal voting rights. We all know the I have a dream speech but this was just as important for his campaign. This shows how things started to change and how important this moment was history.
Do We Care It Got Oscar Attention? My personally feeling is that it was this film that caused all of the racial tension against the Oscar committee because David Oyelowo gives a stunning performance that did deserve Oscar attention and got overlooked. The Best picture nomination was deserved and for the story being told we have an important on here.
