Plot: Former dentist, Dr. King Schultz, buys the freedom of a slave, Django, and trains him with the intent to make him his deputy bounty hunter. Instead, he is led to the site of Django’s wife who is under the hands of Calvin Candie, a ruthless plantation owner.
Verdict: Best Western This Century
Story: A tale about friendship, morals and revenge through a time when slavery and racism were all common usage. How the deals are handle is expertly put together and as always Tarantino can put together such a simple scene and make it the most edge of the seat, tension filled moment in the film. Each act is perfectly divided up like every Tarantino film and if you just want action you have to wait for that moment when all hell lets loose and it is worth the wait. The revenge aspect works nicely because each plan is put together to work to a tee. (10/10)
Actor Review
Jamie Foxx: Django a slave turned bounty hunter who works with King to take down the worst of the worse before setting out to free his wife from the evil Calvin Candie. Great performance from Jamie, entering the elite lead actors, with a memorable performance with very few words. (10/10)
Christoph Waltz: Dr. King Schultz the dentist turned bounty hunter who befriends Django and trains him up to be associate before teaming up to take free Django’s wife. Stunning performance with a perfectly calm persona who can talk himself out of anything. (10/10)
Leonardo DiCaprio: Calvin Candie a plantation owner with the taste for the eccentric. He treats his slaves badly to keep his money rolling it. Good performance from DiCaprio that on any other year could have finally got him his Oscar but Waltz steals it this time. (10/10)
Kerry Washington: Broomhilda the wife that they are looking for, who works on Calvin’s plantation, she has been whipped and punished by the people on the plantation. Good supporting performance, but doesn’t really have to do much. (7/10)
Samuel L Jackson: Stephen the one confidant of Calvin who doesn’t like seeing any black person in a higher respected role than himself. Great performance from Jackson who gives well over the top performance. (9/10)
Director Review: Quentin Tarantino – The master of the high suspense with very little happening works wonders yet again here. (10/10)
Action: The gun slinging action is plenty fun, wildly over the top and blood flying everywhere. (9/10)
Western: Modern western Perfection. (10/10)
Settings: Each setting is perfectly re-created to give a true authentic scene. (10/10)
Special Effects: The mad blood splatter for each gunshot comes off brilliantly. (10/10)
Suggestion: This is one you really have to watch, even if you don’t like the western genre. (Watch)
Best Part: Tarantino’s style works to make this all great.
Worst Part: Nothing.
