DIY: Upholstered Headboard Techniques

Watch our MESS to YES Home Makeover!

For the last Oregon Street of Dreams I created two kid’s bedrooms. My favorite was “The Inventor” a space designed to encourage creativity and discovery, while also maintaining a comfortable hang out space as kid’s become, tweens who become teens. One of the ways I maximized the floor space for seating was to make an upholstered day bed. We created a video of the making of the daybed from beginning to end on time lapse photography which you can watch on our YES Spaces DIY channel here.

While that video is fun to watch and shows the materials required, about how long the whole process takes and the scope of the work, I don’t stop and talk about specific techniques. I did that partially because I know I am a perfectionist and I would be stopping and starting putting on a side with nail trim and redoing it. Many of you had questions about technique so we have finally put together a new video with step by step instructions and behind the scene tips and secrets for making your bed look like a professional piece!

How To Make An Upholstered Headboard is now live on our YouTube Channel! It is not for the casual quick DIYer. This is in depth detail for those who really want to know how to make the project come together. If that’s you, check it out! If you want to see whether you are interested in making your own check out the stop action version DIY: The Making of An Upholstered Daybed.

We are very excited to be up and running with Season 3 of our Mess to YES videos now that we have Our New Studio. You can watch it being built via stop action too! My favorite parts are when my young helpers try to put Easter Eggs into the video and my least favorite part is when the giant piece of plywood falls on my head!

I am packing today to head to the annual WithIT Educational Conference.
