For first-class, elegant dining in a beautiful rural setting, The Saloon Restaurant at Hawkstone Hall & Gardens, is a truly decadent and intimate restaurant. Set in the one of the oldest parts of the original Main House, it is quintessentially British and has a luxurious feel with artwork adorning the walls and rich, plush fabrics throughout, complementing the grandeur of the house.
Executive Head Chef Andrew Watts has created a modern menu based on classic British dishes using locally sourced ingredients inspired by the seasons. The à la Carte menu is served Monday to Saturday between 6pm-9.30pm.
Starters include Scallops & Smoked Apple, served with Apple Remaloude and Walnut Crumb; English Pea Crème Brulee and White Crab, served with Pickles and Dark Crab Tuille; and Crispy Duck Egg, served with Roast Baby Beetroot and Hazelnut Mayonnaise.
Mains include Fillet Steak, served with Butter Poached Lobster, Truffle Mash and Spinach; Smoked Haddock, served with Pommes Puree, Maple Bacon and Poached Duck Egg; and Linguine and Seasonal Foraged Mushrooms, served with Truffles.
To bring the meal to a sweet end, guests are spoiled for choice with desserts such as White Chocolate Cheesecake, served with English Strawberries; Lemon and Lavender Mousse, served with Raspberries and Burnt Meringue; and for those who have a savoury tooth, a Local Shropshire Cheeseboard.
In May 2019, Hawkstone Hall & Gardens, a magnificent Grade I listed 18 th Century mansion, opened its doors to guests following an extensive multi-million-pound renovation. The spectacular Georgian property has been sympathetically restored to its former magnificent splendour; and now for the first time in its 550-year history has become a luxurious hotel.
The 37-bedroom retreat stands handsomely amongst acres of manicured lawns, offering Grade I listed beauty coupled with classic countryside charm. Due to the rural location of this magnificent mansion, the guestrooms offer far stretching views of the Shropshire countryside and onwards to the Welsh Valleys.
Within its grounds, the estate boasts a rose garden, croquet lawn, apple orchard, ancient cemetery, original 18 th Century lily pond, walled garden, river with a quaint stone bridge, forested areas, over half a mile of footpaths and a wonderfully romantic 'secret garden'.
Overflowing with romance and boasting floor-to-ceiling windows that invite an abundance of natural light into the space, it's no surprise that the location has been used as a filming location for many period television programmes and films.
