Diamond Jubilee Special: All About Corgis

The Corgi is a native breed of British dog that is most famously known for it's long association with The Royal Family. There are two different breeds which are the endangered Cardigan Welsh Corgi and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, which is the Queen's preferred breed. Following a worrying decline in the popularity of Corgis that has been going on for some time, the interest in both breeds this year so far has sky-rocketed according to the Kennel Club, which is fantastic news particularly in the year of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The Queen and Corgis Dogs are thought to have been popular with The Royal Family since the 17th century. Corgis have been in The Royal Family since 1933. The first Corgi was bought by King George VI and was called Dookie. The second Corgi was called Jane and had puppies. Two of Jane's puppies were kept and named Crackers and Carol. The Queen was given a Corgi called Susan for her 18th birthday. Some Corgis mated with dachshunds to create Dorgis. The Queen has three Corgis called Monty, Willow and Holly. The Queen also has three Dorgis called Cider, Candy and Vulcan. The popularity of Pembroke Welsh Corgis has risen by a third so far this year. In honor of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
