Dhansoo Cafe, Ambience Mall, Gurgaon

By Indian Food Freak @IFoodFreak

For Sunday dinner, as a family we went out to Dhansoo Cafe at Ambience Mall. With my daughters becoming much busier than me, this is pretty rare these days.

This is my 3rd or 4th visit to Dhansoo Cafe and I must say that they serve some amazing food. Starting from the complimentary bun-maska (you just can’t but love them) to their cocktails, almost everything was amazing. I must also mention that their special cocktails at Rs395 are pretty pocket friendly as well.

We started with bhutte ki kees. This Indori special dish was served in a pav bhaji style. Buttery, creamy and that sweet flavour from the corns makes it so addictive and goes well with the buttered pav. My elder one’s favourite Vegetable seekh kebabs were served on cut parantha and served with sodeko aloo and pickled onion. Another good dish.

My younger one can never have enough of pizza. Dhansoo Cafe being a regional Indian restaurant with a twist doesn’t have a pizza but we noticed Mexican dosa that has baked beans, cheese, capsicum etc and we ordered it instead. Crispy and tasty. However we didn’t use any of the sambhar and chutney served along as it went well on its own.

There is some Strawberry festival going on and we enjoyed their strawberry chaat as well. With strawberries, kiwi and other fruits, this is a pretty exotic chaat

For the main course, Dhansoo Cafe has a platter kind of a meal that comes with rice and parantha/naan etc. my favourite here was methi matar malai along with mushrooms. Butter paneer masala was also good. However their Hyderabadi khatti daal needed a bit more of the tamarind. On sharing the feedback, Chef immediately offered to do it again but we were so full that we declined.

Just like I love malai cheeni toast at Comorin for its nostalgia, similarly I love yaadon ki churri at Dhansoo Cafe. This humble dish made with smashed parantha, cheeni and ghee took me straight to my childhood. Once again we didn’t use the kalakand or rabdi served along. At best I would have liked vanilla ice-cream along with it to cut on the dryness and also to give that thanda-garam effect.

Overall a brilliant meal.

PS: Once again all vegetarian dishes
