SLPP MP and business magnate Dhammika Perera has sent a letter to the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Sagara Kariyawasam informing him that he is withdrawing from the Presidential Candidacy of the SLPP.

Dhammika Perera has stated in his letter that he took this decision for personal reasons. Dhammika Perera had previously stated he is willing to be the Presidential Candidate of the SLPP.

Meanwhile, Udayanga Weeratunga, the former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, said that Namal Rajapaksa MP, the National Organiser of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, is likely to be nominated as the SLPP Presidential candidate

during an event at the party headquarters at Nelum Mawatha, Battaramulla today morning.

He further stated that Namal Rajapaksa will be nominated as the candidate of the SLPP at the upcoming Presidential Election with the blessings of all Rajapaksa’s.
