Woody Bookman hasn't spoken a word in his eleven years of life. Not when his father died in a freak accident. Not when his mother Megan tells him she loves him.

For Megan, keeping her boy safe and happy is what matters. But Woody believes a monstrous evil is behind his father's death and now threatens him and his mother. And he's not alone in his thoughts. An ally unknown to him is listening.

Woody's fearful suspicions are taking shape. A malicious man driven by evil has set a depraved plan into motion. And he's coming after Woody and his mother. The reasons are primal. His powers are growing. And he's not alone.

[Three years after the accident, Megan Brookman's heart and mind were in a good place, although occasionally anxiety afflicted her, a feeling that time was running out, that a sinkhole might open at any moment under her]

I've been reading the author for more than thirty years. Devoted is classic Koontz; special powers, sinister strangers and the like. I really enjoyed this. Yes, it involves super-intelligent dogs able to communicate with humans and this is twee at first but somehow Koontz is able to make this work. It didn't take me long to fall in love with Kipp and the Mysterium. I was impressed by the sensitive way Koontz tackles Woody's autism. Shackett is a great villain in a demented lunatic kind of way. This was a pleasure to read.
