Even more so than the beautiful “Flowers”, Devon Williams latest track “Games” reveals a wealth of refreshing ideas and complex richly orchestrated melodies. The steadily evolving chord progressions and tempo changes of “Games” are beautifully submerged under endlessly colorful textures that recall some vague distant idea of 80’s soft rock. Yet, the real showstopper is Williams’ burnish, singular voice that is synthesized elegantly with Jorge Elbrecht’s absolutely flawless production work. It has taken two years for Williams to complete his third album and it shows in the detail work. Nothing is left for chance and compared to his back-catalogue, Williams has reached a whole new plateau of creativity on Gilding The Lily. Out  June 2 on Slumberland Records.
