Determine a Baby's Gender Even Earlier!

By Newsanchormom

I am not saying people should find out whether they are having a boy or girl before the ultrasound shows you, but I do think this research is great. I don't think I ever would have spent the money to have a blood test done to find out my baby's gender, but it's nice to know that is possible and it's not some scam. I always wondered if those tests were really accurate. My question is, would it lead to more abortions if people find out they are getting the gender they don't want? I know that sounds crazy, but I just wonder if someone would actually do that. That would be horrible.

FROM NBC: A blood test may be a safe and effective way of finding out a baby's sex before birth. Researchers from the National Institutes of Health looked at data on "cell-free fetal DNA" taken from mom's blood after 7 weeks gestation.

The test was able to predict the sex of the baby 95-percent of the time. Researchers say it was much more reliable than any test using samples of the mother's urine.

Doctors say this could someday be a useful and less invasive alternative to amniocentesis, which carries a risk for miscarriage. There are some rare disorders linked to the sex of the baby -- which doctors say could be detected early with this kind of technology.
