MailOnline reports
that Police immediately launched an
appeal for information after the damage was spotted near a cricket
pavilion. The appeal said: 'Police are
appealing for information after a storage box and brooms were damaged in
Eyam.'Sometime between 9pm on Sunday, July 19 and 9am on Monday, July 20
offenders forced the lid of a storage box at Eyam Cricket Pavilion on Hawkhill
Road.'Damage was then caused to the container and two brooms were
broken.'Anyone with information is being urged to contact PCSO Anthony Boswell
from the Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team on 101, quoting crime number
30670/15.'
The witness appeal
has now spread online, with scores of Facebook comments mocking the severity of
the crime. One person wrote - 'I believe
the police are sweeping the area for clues.'; another said, 'Whoever is doing
this should expect a brush with the law soon.'- another added - 'So this is how
police time is being spent? Brilliant.'
Most people
discussing the police appeal found it funny, although some branded it a waste
of resources. Others said the appeal was
a waste of time, saying the police should be prioritising more serious crimes
ahead of broken brooms. Earlier this month, Northumbria Police was mocked
online for it appealed for help finding a beach towel.
A
derby is a type of horse race named after the Derby Stakes run at Epsom Downs
Racecourse in England. That was in turn named after Edward Smith-Stanley, 12th
Earl of Derby, who inaugurated the race in 1780. Traditionally, the term "derby" is
used strictly to refer to races restricted to three-year-olds,though there are
exceptions. It is Britain's richest horse race, and the most prestigious of the
five Classics. It is sometimes referred to as the "Blue Riband" of
the turf.
