These charts are from a recent Gallup Poll -- done between November 1st and 11th of a national sample of 1,037 adults, with a 4 point margin of error. It shows that a significant majority of Americans (57%) believes the federal government should insure all citizens have health care. That's 85% of Democrats and 27% of Republicans.
But how to achieve that is a tougher question. Only 40% of Americans currently want a government-run system like Medicare-for-All. About 65% of Democrats want that (and that support has been constant for the last decade or so). Unfortunately, only 13% of Republicans want that (and their opposition has been just as constant).
It looks like it's going to take a little longer before a clear enough majority of Americans realize that a government run system is the only real way to cover everyone and control costs.
