Democratic Field Expands To 24 As de Blasio Declares (This photo of Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York City is by Kevin Case at Wikipedia.)
Democrats didn't need another candidate in their already crowded field of hopefuls trying for the Democratic presidential nomination for president in 2020, but they got one anyway.
On Thursday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio tossed his hat into the ring, saying:
“Working Americans deserve better and I know we can do it because I’ve done it here in the largest, toughest city in this country. We have to put working people first.”
Bill de Blasio's entrance brings the number of Democrats seeking the presidential nomination to 24. That's a ridiculous number, and it's obvious that most of those 24 are living in a dream world (having no chance to actually get the nomination). But they all hope that lightening will strike, and Democratic voters will see them as the nation's hope to defeat Trump.
Here are the 24 Democratic candidates running for the party's nomination:
Joe Biden
Elizabeth Warren
Kamala Harris
Pete Buttigieg
Beto O'Rourke
Cory Booker
Julian Castro
Amy Klobuchar
Jay Inslee
John Hickenlooper
Andrew Yang
Michael Bennet
John Delaney
Tim Ryan
Wayne Messam
Seth Moulton
Eric Swalwell
Kirsten Gillibrand
Marianne Williamson
Steve Bullock
Tulsi Gabbard
Bill de Blasio
Bernie Sanders
Mike Gravel
