The University of Delhi has recently released an official notification regarding the schema of the ongoing semester of various undergraduate and postgraduate students. The notification has detailed information regarding the special amendments to be made, keeping in mind the current situation and how the methodology and pedagogy should be manipulated to suit the interest of the students.

According to the notification, the semester-end examination will be conducted in December 2020. Delhi University has been conducting online classes for the odd semesters since March 2020. Keeping in mind the new normal, various changes have been introduced in the internal assessment, viva-voce, and project submission.

Only One Component for Internal Assessment

As per the Delhi University curriculum, each student had to fulfill three components to be considered for internal assessment. The internal assessment is worth 25 marks, which is further divided into three components: i.e., Class Test (worth 10 marks), Tutorial Test (worth 10 marks), and Attendance (worth 5 marks). Since the same pattern cannot be followed owing to the online classes, only one of the components mentioned above (except attendance) will be considered as the determining factor for the internal assessment marks.

The pattern of the rest of the theory paper, which is worth 75 marks, has not been decided yet whether the varsity will follow the Open Book Examination (OBE) mode yet again or Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The university can also follow a blended mode for the convenience of the candidates.

Viva-Voce will be Conducted Online for Delhi University Students

For candidates who have practical and labs as a mandate for their degree, the University of Delhi has outlined that the viva-voce will be conducted online. The teachers may choose the platform they want, including Skype, Google Meet, or Zoom. The varsity has further directed the teachers to find a suitable alternative to the laboratory experiments and the corresponding marking scheme.

Postgraduate, M.Phil, and PhD candidates who are required to submit their dissertation and thesis must do so in the form of written assignments. The same will be assessed by the mentors and marked. The university has not stated whether such scholars will be allowed to access the library or any form of study material that would require them to commute to the respective college.
